Chronic Diseases

What is a Chronic Disease?

Acute conditions, such as a cold, typically resolve within days or weeks. With a chronic disease, you are sick for long periods of time, perhaps with episodes of feeling better or worse. According to the Centers for Disease Control, chronic diseases form 7 out of the 10 leading causes of death in the United States. Less likely to die from acute illnesses such as infections or fevers, we now carry the burden of disease in our bodies for decades. The goal in treating chronic disease is to slow down and eventually stop the progression of the illness by addressing the underlying cause. Often there are multiple factors involved in symptom development and disease progression that must be uncovered and corrected in order to affect a cure. Just as diseases develop and progress over long periods of time, uncovering their root cause and correcting it can also take time. As such, chronic disease can be very complicated to manage and require a close, on-going partnership between doctor and patient.

Naturopathic Medicine & Chronic Diseases

Our doctors empower you to make the diet and lifestyle changes necessary to restore your body to ongoing, lasting health. Your individualized treatment plan may include restoring hormonal balance; quieting inflammation; correcting neurotransmitter imbalances; improving nutrition, digestion, absorption and elimination; using herbs and nutritional supplements to achieve therapeutic levels of supportive nutrients; and more. Below are just some examples of chronic diseases that can be profoundly affected with naturopathic medicine. Because naturopathic medicine treats people and not disease, this list is not all-inclusive. If you do not see your condition listed here, please contact the clinic directly to set up a complimentary phone consult with one of our doctors: Autoimmune
